SANDY HOLDER - The "NOTEABLE" WOOD CARVER

Hello from Evart, Michigan and welcome to my home page. I'm very glad that you made it this far . . . and I hope that you'll stick around long enough to get to know a little bit about me. I enjoy playing music on my hammered dulcimer and started wood carving in 1994. Another "hobby" that has keep me busy for the past 12 years is piano tuning and repair. I found out it pays for my carving tools!

We were first introduced to the hammered dulcimer in 1982 after moving to Evart and visiting the 10th annual Dulcimer Funfest. There we were introduced to the hammered dulcimer, the Original Dulcimer Players Club and the wonderful festival they put on each year always held on the 3rd full weekend each July. We have attended that festival ever since because I caught terminal "Dulcimeritis" and my husband is now the "carrier". Then he got sick and now has one too!

That's our friend Floyd Fox, "Foxy Banjo" playing a tune with me.

Ever since I was a little girl, I have always wanted a carousel horse. Now that I have "grown up", I have discovered you can do just about anything you put your mind to. A friend introduced me to wood carving a few years ago, and after reading a wonderful article on carving carousel horses, decided I would love to make my own. Since then I have hand carved about 25 minature carousel horses, from 2" to 15" high and my 36" high horse is now in the works. Come see some of my carvings.

A few times a year now finds us on the road to various wood carving shows throughout Michigan. Competition has earned me numerous blue ribbons of which I am very proud. Although I do enjoy entering shows, my main interest is helping others learn this very relaxing hobby. The Chief Osceola Wood Carvers meet twice a week in Evart, and at no cost is open to everyone.

June 14-18, 2000 we invite all carvers and everyone interested in carving to attend the first WOOD CARVERS ROUNDUP co-sponsored by the Osceola 4H and FFA Fairgrounds and the Chief Osceola Wood Carvers. This 2nd annual 5 day free event will be held at the Osceola 4-H/FFA fairgrounds where in Evart where camping is available, and a great time is a sure thing.

Thanks for stopping by, it has been a pleasure. Check back often as this page has a tendancy to be corrected now and then.
