Okay, so these micro-scopic dudes in the rock are 4.5 million years old -- about the same kind of primitive life that was roaming here 4.5 millions of years ago....or even now..... What I think it was, many more Meteors came from Mars 30-40 billion years ago, some organisms lived, infused themselves into Earth life, and became what we are today. Yes, we are all Martians. The truth is out.

What gets me is -- why is science so conceited in believing that the foundations of life that hold true for Earth must hold true on other planets? Why do we call these fossilized organisms "primitive"? Perhaps these are mummies of an advanced, small (er than us), Martian species millions of years old? Perhaps embedded in that rock was one one of Mars' most noted philosophers.

Yeah, I know.

Mike

* The truth is out.

This "theory" is called transpermia. The opposite is also possible, in that earth meteors inoculated mars. It seems our two planets have practiced un-safe sex with each other.

People are conceited, not just scientists. The possibilities of non-carbon based/ water independent life was mentioned in one of the news conferences. It seems that wherever water is found on the earth, so is life. Life has been found miles deep in the earth, in super heated (above 212F) water, and along geothermal vents at the bottom of the ocean. There is a lot of water in our solar system and farther out in space.

* Why do we call these fossilized organisms "primitive"?

The way the word "primitive" (or "simple") is used by scientists is not intended to be insulting. They don't mean "stupid". Bacteria and protists are often referred to as primitive or simple organisms. More "advanced" or complex multicellular life forms include things like arthropods, jellyfish, plants, and us.

* Yeah, I know.

And I'm sure something "out there" considers us primitive, simple *and* stupid.

Gene

Strange coincidence, that. =)

Either that or earth critters crawled under the Mars rock and died after it landed here. Though it wouldn't have been 30-40 billion years ago. God was still in diapers back then, AFAIK.

It isn't science that is conceited, it's the people who write the essays and expound the theories. Not every scientist believes in scripture and the concept of man being created in God's own image and therefore being the only form of life worth a damn. Some of them just think we evolved to that status of merit.

Socrates was a mollusk. =)

* Yeah, I know.

Yes, but do THEY know?

Or, basically, given each other crabs.

What we need to find is chlorine-breathing (through fluff-follicles) blobular critters that manage to run an advanced civilization, from their blobby perches, without structure. That might be enough to convince some people that our general rules of nature aren't the only ones that could possibly work.

Perhaps they should even eat star chunks via mind waves.

Primitive roughly translates to "no backbone". Calling a jellyfish primitive in any other way would be downright heretical and deserving of a torturous demise.

I'm out there. =)
