Course Description:   Examine numeric measures and indicators that quantifies input, output, and performance dimensions of process, products, services and overall school outcomes.  Examine the selection, management, and use of information and data to support key school processes and action plans.  Examine the collection, management and reporting of student performance, student and stakeholder satisfaction, faculty and staff results, and school-specific performance.  Also examined are methods for identifying performance levels to comparable schools and/or appropriately selected organizations

(1)        to describe the school’s selection, management, and use of information and data needed to support key processes and action plans and to improve school performance

(2)        to describe the school’s selection, management, and use of comparative information and data to improve the school’s overall performance

(3)        to describe how the school analyzes and reviews overall performance to assess progress relative to plans and goals and to identify key opportunities for improvement

(4)        to identify methods for summarizing student performance results

(5)        to summarize school’s student and stakeholder satisfaction and dissatisfaction results

(6)        to summarize the school’s faculty- and staff-related results, including faculty and staff well-being, satisfaction and development

(7)        to summarize key school performance results that contribute to enhanced learning and/or operational effectiveness

COURSE ASSIGNMENTS:    There are 10 required assignments

 

Evaluation/Grade

 

The class will only meet on one weekend.  The assignments will be submitted via e-mail.  Therefore, there are ten required internet assignments.   The completion of an assignment does not assure receiving the grade point as assigned to the project.  The quality of work will be a primary consideration.

 

 

A grade up to a B can be achieved by satisfactorily completing these ten REQUIRED assignments

Assignment 1

Complete an assignment on data management that requires you to read and respond in writing to questions from three articles about data management and research data management systems

Assignment 2

Complete an assignment on data driven decision making that requires you to read and respond in writing to questions from five journal articles about data driven decision making

Assignment 3

Read and respond in writing to questions about Five Award Winning School Districts

Assignment 4

Read and respond in writing to questions regarding Results:  The Key to Continuous Improvement

Assignment 5

Using data from a simulated math test and an Excel template provided by the instructor, create a Distracter Analysis of student performance

Assignment 6

Using information that is available on the internet, select a school district or ISD and report school performance data on that school or district.  Be ready to discuss the results.

Assignment 7

You must research the literature and complete ten “Sharing Best Practices Worksheets” for Categories 4 and 7.

Assignment 8

Individually perform a Baldrige examiners assessment for a case study on one item from Category 4 and two from Category 7

Assignment 9

Using real information from the internet, chart in Excel student performance and financial trend data

Assignment 10

Using data provided by the instructor, chart in Excel student and staff perception data
