COMPETENCIES TO BE ADDRESSED:

* Using actual experiences, vicarious experiences, guidance from others, and personal reflection, the student will be able to decide whether to become a teacher.

* Given knowledge of teacher job availability, certification requirements, salary, and career advancement, the student will be able to pursue teaching as a career.

* With knowledge of social issues that affect American education, the student will be able to propose solutions and design programs which help provide an effective response by schools.

* Given knowledge of the inner workings of a school district, the student will be able to define the duties and responsibilities of school board members, superintendents, assistant superintendents, and principals.

* Given knowledge of six educational philosophies in American schools, the student will be able to categorize each of them as authoritarian (convergent thinking) or non-authoritarian (divergent thinking).

* Knowing how schools are governed, controlled, and financed, the student will be able to describe the relationship between teachers and the environment within which they work.
