Before the tree was removed, leaves were beginning to wilt so we could see the limbs better. Joe had trimmed off a lot of the smaller limbs. I had forgotten about the double Shepherd's Hook next to the retaining wall. We won't know how well it survived until we can get it out. It's barely visible here toward top of picture. This was all that was holding up this big limb. Looks like a saw horse with an extra leg in the middle. The table is back where we can use it, but now it's in the sun instead of shaded by the tree. One of the tree removal crew up in the tree. The right side trunk has already been removed. Notice at very bottom of picture. I took a video of the last of the tree falling but apparently the only way you can see it is to click here and download it to your computer. However, you will need Quick Time Player to view it as it is in MOV format. The guy with the chain saw motions to the other fellow who is holding onto a rope which doesn't show in the movie. When the "cutter" disappears, he went to help pull the trunk. The left side trunk was cut at the same height as the right side was cut. The other 2 guys running the smaller limbs through the wood chipper. The remains of the tree spread all over the yard. After the brush was cleared. The remaining stump will be turned into a yard ornament ... someday. One of the 2nd pair of guys almost cut it off before I realized what was happening and stopped him. The first "cutter" knew we wanted it left but this wasn't communicated to the ones who came later. More of the "fire wood," the picnic table and the wood that surrounded the tree to form a hexagonal "flower box" around the tree. The raised area can barely be seen in the previous picture. More firewood. Other notes - The Shepherd's Hook was not damaged. It's now between the deck and the grape arbor with a hummingbird feeder and a plant hanging from it. There seems to be more birds now that they can't hide in the tree. I think they're wondering where it went. The cats had a new jungle gym for a while, too. But it's gone now. This is Mittens. |
