Trip to Cleveland, Ohio

see yesterday     see tomorrow     go back to schedule

There's a new Bob Evans about a mile from Jodie's where we went for lunch.  Alexa loves their piggy pancakes.

While out and about I noticed what was blooming ... magnolia trees, daffodils, forsythia, some tulips, hyacinth, azaleas, and other early spring flowers.

Before taking Alexa to her sitter's, we went to the Dollar Tree that we like to visit at least once every time we come to Cleveland.  Alexa "had to have" several items.  We also bought a few things for Jodie.  The sitter lives close to the Dollar Tree so we didn't even move the van.

Next we headed to the ice arena where they normally hold hockey games but the roller derby is using it for a while.  The ice was gone & most of the plastic safety panels had been removed.  It's in Euclid, east of Cleveland.  This is a new location for the skaters.

Jodie's team skated in the first bout.  Her skater name is Dee Crypt & her number is 256.  She works at the morgue doing computer work thus the name & number.  She had a very good night.  When she went out as Jammer the first time, they announced that fact.  She usually skates as a blocker.  She scored 19 points right away and surprised most everyone.  I told Joe the other team wasn't expecting that.  She was Jammer a few more times.  By the time the evening was over, she had scored over 60 points.  The other team changed their strategy when she wore the star.  They would replace their blockers with bigger girls as soon as they realized Jodie would be Jammer again.  Final score was 166 to 154.  Her team won.  The other team was from Athens, Ohio.  Her team is from around the Cleveland area & includes a 60 year old grandmother who scored a few points of her own.

Jodie is the blur in mid picture.

The Jammer gets her name on the scoreboard.
The one in the lead blinks.

Her trophy for MVP Jammer was a skate wheel atop a sample size box of chocolates.  It was decorated by one of the skaters.  That's black marker on her arms.

This was also the final score.

We left before the second bout was over so we could pick up Alexa and put her to bed.  But being good grandparents, we took her to McD's for ice cream cones before going back to the house.

She slept in our bed for another night.
